About Us

Since spring 2008 we (Luna Maurer, Edo Paulus, Jonathan Puckey and Roel Wouters) come together every tuesday at Luna's kitchen table.
Aside from working on the Conditional Design Manifesto we organize weekly Conditional Design workshops and publish the results on our website.

This is our background and how our relationships came about:

Luna and Roel met in 2001 at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, where they have been studying together on their master degree. Luna had studied graphic design at the Rietveld before and Roel came from the Academy in The Hague. They have been collaborating on a lot of performative projects since and teach together at the Rietveld Academy.

Edo and Luna met in 2003 at a party and were very fascinated by each other's work approaches. Edo studied sound design at the Utrecht School of the Arts and developed into an artist fascinated by (generative) processes and using them for sound-installations. Together they developed www.sandberg.nl and Placement/Displacement, a seating system based on the principles of a cellular automata.

Luna googled Jonathan in 2004 to help out on a project (Schoolyard Secrets). It turned into a relationship of three years after which they continued to do many projects together, mainly involving the idea of 'human programming'. Jonathan studied graphic design at the Rietveld and graduated in 2006.

Jonathan and Roel teach together at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.

Roel and Edo have intense discussions about the level of abstraction.

Edo and Jonathan exchange the latest YouTube videos and internet memes.

Meanwhile, all four of us have inspired each other and share similar ideas, motivations and goals. (And we're are all each others fan on del.icio.us).
