On the 14th of August, 2008,
we followed Edo into Second Life to create a 3D diagram

So, we are writing a manifesto, talking about processes and searching for some important aspects of process based works. Looking for some general principles.

As a counter balance to the more abstract ideas in the manifesto it might be good to investigate a collection of actual, existing works that relate to our manifesto.

To do this, Edo set up a 3-dimensional diagram in Second Life. We then started filling the diagram with small cubes representing actual, existing projects. Discussing and deciding together where each project-cube should be placed.

Instructions:

  • Create a new project-cube in the 3D diagram and give it a name, picture and a link.
  • Position that project-cube along the three axes, according to the following characteristics:
Red axis:
  • NO EXTERNAL INFLUENCE - MUCH EXTERNAL INFLUENCE
  • Whether the process works all on its own, without any external influence, or whether there is a lot of external influence which changes the way the process behaves.

Blue axis:
  • EXISTING PROCESS - NEW PROCESS
  • Whether the project visualizes a process that is already existing or whether it creates a new, previously non-existing process.

Green axis:
  • SHOW THE PROCESS IN ACTION - SHOW A FIXED END-RESULT
  • How the work is presented: Can a visitor, or user of the work see the process in action, or does it show a fixed, final end-product that is a result of the process.
